In November and December 2024, we welcomed 13 new members to the Alliance. Please read more about them below.

Interdisciplinary Global Mental Health Innovation is a network of experienced practitioners, researchers, educators, and activists working across sectors and disciplines to maximize health and well-being in pursuit of durable and equitable social justice, Planetary Health, and social determinants of health. Utilizing interdisciplinary approaches across the global Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus, they effectively respond with communities impacted by adversity and trauma related to disasters, violence, conflict, and migration. They provide community-engaged, culturally responsive, trauma-informed services that are both adaptive to immediate implementation and foundational to future innovations. The foundations of innovation through IGMHI intentionally advance intersectoral and intergenerational connectedness from individual health and well-being through communities, including global ecosystems and Planetary Health.

JHU-UPF Public Policy Center aims to provide critical knowledge on the most significant planetary problems and their systemic-historical causes, and help inform political decisions and policy interventions that are effective, equitable and truly sustainable. They are committed to promoting Planetary Health through delivering transdisciplinary research, education and knowledge dissemination activities that respond to the ecosocial crises that humanity is currently facing.

Youth Health Hub Indonesia (YHHI) is a youth organization focusing on health and environmental sustainability. They aim to promote Planetary Health and One Health principles in Indonesia. Being a part of the Planetary Health Alliance will enhance our access to Planetary Health-related networks that are interdisciplinary and multistakeholder, cutting-edge research and innovative community-centered solutions in Planetary Health, helping us to stay at the forefront of this rapidly evolving field. By learning from experienced mentors, joining Planetary Health workshops, and participating in Planetary Health activities or community programs.

Cochrane Planetary Health Thematic Group is committed to advancing Planetary Health by synthesizing critical evidence to guide decision-makers in addressing climate change, sustainability challenges in health systems and Planetary Health. The new Cochrane Planetary Health Thematic Group focuses on supporting the production of high-quality, methodologically sound systematic reviews in this area. They collaborate actively within the Planetary Health community to refine methodologies, prioritize essential topics, and communicate findings widely. By engaging with the Planetary Health Alliance, they aim to expand our network, share resources and expertise, and co-create knowledge dissemination opportunities, including webinars and mentoring programs, to foster informed, effective responses to planetary health challenges globally.

Swansea Action For Sustainable Healthcare (SWASH) is a Swansea University society that works with health board medical professionals and medical school staff with the aim to reduce the environmental impact of education and healthcare. They assess this impact yearly via meetings with local healthcare professionals and analysis of their Planetary Health Report Card result which enables them to set goals to improve certain areas such as research and community outreach. Over the years they have run campaigns, research projects, sustainable prescribing locally, passed British Medical Association (BMA) motions regarding their curriculum, virtual networking and educational conferences / webinars. They look forward to collaborating within the Planetary Health Community and aim to network with other members, educate themselves further on novel sustainable healthcare practice, find new opportunities for future initiatives and present their most current projects progression.

Be-cause Health — The climate and health nexus has gained track in global health. In parallel to the integration of climate and health into global health policies, research is growing with educational offers to a climate-aware health workforce. If the emergent field of planetary health is moving fast, the Be-Cause health working group on Planetary Health is too. Together we can better advocate, share more resources and information, and engage in research, education, and programmes.

Bangladesh Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Foundation (OSHE Foundation) is committed to advancing Planetary Health by integrating environmental sustainability and occupational health into its programs. They focus on promoting safe, healthy, and sustainable workplaces, advocating for policies that address both environmental and worker health, and raising awareness of the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities. Through their collaboration with the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA), they aim to exchange knowledge, contribute to global research, and advocate for integrated solutions that protect both people and the planet. By working together, they aspire to strengthen global efforts towards achieving a healthier, more sustainable future for all.

National Civic League is committed to fostering sustainable, inclusive communities by integrating environmental health and resilience into its civic engagement initiatives. Through programs like the All-America City Award, they spotlight and support innovative local solutions that address interconnected challenges of environmental sustainability, public health, and civic participation. By joining the Planetary Health Alliance, they aim to collaborate with global partners to share best practices, apply cutting-edge planetary health research, and empower communities to advance local and global health outcomes. Together, they strive to strengthen civic infrastructure that promotes healthier ecosystems, governance systems, and community well-being.

Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing is firmly committed to integrating Planetary Health principles into every aspect of their work, recognizing that human well-being is inextricably linked to the health of our ecosystems. By drawing upon cutting-edge research from the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing, they employ innovative methodologies that reduce their reliance on animal-based models and minimize environmental impact. Through open dialogue, resource-sharing, and the co-creation of evidence-based strategies, they look forward to building meaningful alliances and strengthening the Planetary Health community.

Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) was established in 1955 in Taoyuan, Taiwan, and holistic education and sustainable development are the core of their education goals. CYCU is dedicated to promoting the SDGS on general and professional courses, academic research, industrial innovation collaboration and local communities/government engagements. CYCU commits to to collaborate with the Planetary Health community to achieve One Planetary One Health Goal.

Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras expects to collaborate with Planetary Health, contribute to environmental sustainability and human well-being through research, education, and community engagement, and align with the Sustainable Development Goals. They aim to share knowledge, strengthen interdisciplinary networks, and co-develop innovative solutions to advance global health and sustainability.

At The Nature Conservancy (TNC), their vision is a world where the diversity of life thrives, and people act to conserve nature for its own sake and its ability to fulfill our needs and enrich our lives. They are bound by a mission to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. The Nature Conservancy and its partners impact 81 countries and territories, with a goal of managing 650 million hectares of healthy land, 1 million kilometers of river, 30 million hectares of lakes and wetlands, and billion hectares of ocean by 2030, generating significant health and broader human wellbeing benefits. Through their Planetary and Human Health initiative, they are working to elevate human health and well-being in the work of conservation practitioners and organizations, by 1) advancing foundational planetary and human health research; 2) centering human health in our conservation planning and practice; and, 3) sector-leading convenings and collaborations.

Healthy City Network of Mongolia (Mongolian Chapter of the Alliance for Healthy Cities) (HCSC NGO) integrates Planetary Health into its work by promoting sustainable urban planning, climate resilience, and public health. They aim to collaborate with the Planetary Health Alliance to share knowledge, conduct research, and build partnerships for healthier, more sustainable cities. Through this collaboration, they seek to enhance our impact and contribute to the global Planetary Health movement.
