In July 2024, we are welcoming 8 new members to the Alliance. Please read more about them below.

Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa is dedicated to advancing planetary health through comprehensive education, innovative research, and leadership. They are committed to integrating the principles of planetary health into our curriculum and clinical practice, ensuring that future healthcare professionals are equipped to address the impacts of environmental change. Through fostering a culture of sustainability and advocacy, they translate their knowledge into action, aiming to innovate for a healthier world.

Internews is a media support nonprofit working in 100+ countries. Their mission is to ensure that everyone has trustworthy information to make informed decisions. They build the capacity of journalists to make planetary health science understandable and relatable to audiences. Engaging with scientists, governments, under-served communities and civil society actors, they strive to offer information solutions to planetary health challenges, promote science-based conversations and hold power to account.

Saint Louis University, a Laudato Si university, strongly promotes planetary health advocacies by steadfastly doing its tasks to promote and conscientiously perform environmental preservation and protection. Through the collective efforts of the university stakeholders, they actively perform their duties and responsibilities in promoting the integrity of creation. By joining the other Planetary Health Community members, they join the global movement in restoring and preserving our common home.

The Food for Humanity Initiative is part of Columbia University’s Climate School and is focused on the links between food systems and climate change. They acknowledge that food systems are vulnerable to and instigators of climate variability and change; however, they also promote the concept that food systems are a solution to climate change. The initiative frames its work through multiple lenses that collectively determine the health and sustainability of food systems, including nutrition and health equity; economics and policy incentives for healthy food systems; interaction of food systems with climate, agriculture and land use; community engagement for healthy diets; and food systems under climate-related shocks, conflict, and migration.

Brainware University is eager to collaborate on joint research projects, such as conducting studies on sustainable practices in various thematic areas; coordinated efforts to enhance cybersecurity awareness and education initiatives; and collaborative workshops or seminars to foster knowledge-sharing and networking opportunities. Brainware focuses on community development initiatives (educational programs, targeted health campaigns, and supporting local enterprises) and sustainable practices implementation.

PEACH Health Ontario incorporates planetary health by engaging with Ontario’s medical community in the creation and dissemination of practical resources that address health cares impact on the climate change. Their team works to understand how medical professionals, leadership, and facilities can change their operations to reduce their emissions, waste, and resource usage. All of their work also ensures that patient-centered medicine is central to operational or procedural recommendations.

Portuguese Council for Health and Environment — CPSA plans to use the confidence that citizens place in health professionals to transform them in ambassadors of change for the benefit of citizen’s personal health and of the planet’s collective health. They would like to partner with people and organizations that share this same view and/or have already experience in this domain. They pledge to cooperate with all PHA members and to share our knowledge and results in the field.

World Against Single use Plastic (WASUP) is dedicated to advancing Planetary Health by integrating environmental sustainability with community health initiatives. They focus on environmental education, green infrastructure, and clean energy projects to improve public health and reduce their ecological footprint. By joining the Planetary Health Alliance, they aim to collaborate on research, share resources, and advocate for policies that address global health and environmental challenges. Together, we strive to create a healthier planet for all.
