It is influenced by various psychological, social, cultural, and economic factors that vary across countries and cultures on a global scale. The decisions and behaviors of consumers hold immense significance in the realm of environmental sustainability. Every choice we make as individuals, from the products we choose to consume to how we use and dispose of them, carries profound implications for the environment. Understanding consumer behavior becomes crucial in identifying opportunities to promote and encourage environmentally sustainable choices.
Income and affordability play a pivotal role in shaping consumer choices. Consumers with higher incomes generally have more flexibility to prioritize sustainable options. However, sustainable choices often come with a higher price tag, which can create barriers to access for individuals with lower incomes or those residing in developing regions. In such cases, meeting basic needs may take precedence over choosing environmentally friendly alternatives.
